In case you haven’t heard yet, Wonk Press (our publishing company) has released its first book by someone other than yours truly. It joins Minimalist Tiki and Modern Caribbean Rum in our stable of uncompromising books for spirits and cocktail geeks. (With more to come!)
Polynesiacs – Tiki at Home by Tom Jaynes (aka Tiki Tom Tom) is a visually astonishing tour through 75 of America’s most elaborate, full-tilt home tiki bars. Each bar is accompanied by a beautiful narrative of its origins and the people who created it. The book ties all the bars together through 16 Navigation Points — “Tell a Story,” “Furnish with Light,” “Enchant the Guest,” etc.
Tom and I met at Latitude 29 during his crisscrossing of the country visiting these home bars. During our meeting, Tom asked me who our publisher was. “Funny you should ask that,” I replied. I immediately knew we wanted to help bring Tom’s vision into the world via Wonk Press. Nearly 2 years later, Polynesiacs is printed and on its way to New Orleans.
The book is available for presale on the Wonk Press site. (We sell direct to consumers, enabling us to provide our authors a far larger per-book royalty than traditional publishers do.)
